Reports coming out of Leeds suggest that midfielder Pablo Hernandez is set to sign a two-year deal with the club.

The Yorkshire Evening Post are reporting that the 32-year old is prepared to commit his future to Paul Heckingbottom's side, despite being chased by Garry Monk's Birmingham City.

Hernandez arrived at Elland Road two years ago, but is the only member of the first team squad who hasn't got a contract beyond the end of the season.

He's been one of the brighter lights in a rather dismal campaign, scoring nine times, and is amongst the front runners for their Player of the Year award.

He had been heavily linked with Birmingham City, rekindling his relationship with former Swansea boss Monk, but it appears that Leeds are now in a position to get him to commit to the club until 2020.

Hernandez first arrived at Elland Road on loan from Al-Arabi before making the deal permanent a few months after he had previously been at Valencia and Swansea City.

The Verdict

There will be lots of smiles over those bowls of Cornflakes in Leeds this morning. Pablo Hernandez is a talented player and one whom Leeds must move heaven and earth to keep. He has a good rapport with the fans and is seen as integral to their future success.

If they pull this off it might begin to restore confidence in the owners.
