Preston North End manager Alex Neil and former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal have emerged as contenders for the vacant managerial role at West Bromwich Albion, according to reports from the Telegraph.

The Baggies parted company with Darren Moore on Saturday evening, with the club's hopes of automatic promotion in jeopardy following a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is believed high up on the club's list of replacements, but reports have emerged claiming that Neil and Carvalhal are on the club's radar too.

The latter has declared an interest in the job at the Hawthorns, having been out of work since the end of last season where he was unable to save Swansea City from relegation to the Championship.

The Portuguese manager has experience of managing in the second tier, having took Sheffield Wednesday to the play-off final in 2015/16.

Neil is currently doing a fantastic job at Preston North End, with the Lancashire club sitting three points off the play-offs in 10th spot.

The Scotsman guided Norwich City to the Premier League in 2015 via the play-offs, so his experience would be invaluable for the final run-in.

West Brom sit 4th in the Sky Bet Championship table, nine points off the top two.

The Verdict

If I was a West Brom fan, I'd be wanting Neil over Carvalhal based off his past experience.

He is doing a great job at Preston despite a shaky start to the season, but would be very hard to lure away from Deepdale right now.

I'm not a fan of Carvalhal in all honesty - he endured a terrible time at the helm of Wednesday during the latter stages of his tenure, and there are better options out there for West Brom.
