West Brom's search for Darren Moore's successor seems to have taken a new twist with both Michael Appleton and Craig Shakespeare emerging as short-term candidates according to the Express and Star.

The report details that both men are being considered in the near future to help James Shan see out the season with the Baggies, after making the perfect start as caretaker boss.

Shan oversaw West Brom's win over Brentford at the weekend, which saw them strengthen their grip on a top six finish this season.

But there are sure to be concerns over his lack of managerial experience at such a crucial time in the season, with the Baggies likely to finish in the play-off places.

So, it seems that West Brom are making steps towards appointing a short-term replacement to help aid their promotion bid this season, and Appleton and Shakespeare are among the frontrunners to take charge.

Shakespeare was previously manager of Leicester City but was sacked in 2017 after a poor run of form saw the Foxes slip into relegation trouble.

Whereas Appleton is also out of work after leaving his role as coach of Leicester last season and has already gone on the record in saying that he is open to an approach from his former club.

It's likely to not be the last we hear of speculation linking another managerial candidate to the job, but West Brom supporters will be hoping that a new manager can be in charge at the earliest of opportunities.

The Verdict:

This would be a smart move.

West Brom need some stability for the short-term and I think either Shakespeare or Appleton would both do a good enough job for the remainder of the season.

It's a real mess at the moment, and I'm still stunned that they sacked Darren Moore without having a replacement lined up.
