Sunderland are on the hunt to find a new manager, after the club announced that they had parted ways with Jack Ross on Tuesday afternoon.

It has been reported by TEAMtalk that the Black Cats are targeting Coventry boss Mark Robins as Ross' potential successor heading into the international break.

The Sky Blues manager has been hugely impressive with his side in League One this season, and they currently occupy one of the play-off places almost a quarter of the way into this year's campaign.

The report also claims that Sunderland have already made an approach to bring Daniel Stendel to the Stadium of Light in the near future.

Stendel hasn't been out of work for very long, with the 45-year-old being sacked by Barnsley on Tuesday, just hours before Sunderland announced that Ross had also been dismissed.

The former Tykes boss has experience at League One level, having guided Barnsley to promotion into the Championship in first season in charge.

You can't fault Sunderland's ambition, as TEAMtalk also claim that they're keen to make an approach to Wigan over their manager Paul Cook.

Wigan are currently playing their football in the Championship, and it certainly seems as though Sunderland could have a tough job in attempting to lure him away from the Latics.

Kevin Phillips and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have already applied to take charge of Sunderland, although it remains to be seen as to whether the Black Cats are taking their interest in the vacancy seriously at this moment in time.

Sunderland are next in action after the international break, when they take on Wycombe Wanderers in what is set to be a tough test at Adams Park.

The Verdict:

Robins could prove to be a good appointment for Sunderland.

He knows how to get a team firing at League One level, which is clear to see with his Coventry side flying-high in the league table at this moment in time.

I'm not sure the likes of Kevin Phillips are the right manager at the moment though, as Sunderland need stability and a manager proven at this level.

Daniel Stendel is also another name that they'll surely be speaking to in the near future over the vacancy.
