Queens Park Rangers’ Director of Football, Les Ferdinand, is in discussions with Fenerbahce looking to wrap up Bright Osayi-Samuel’s transfer this month rather than in the summer.
Fenerbahce have confirmed a pre-contract agreement with the 23-year-old that would see him move to Turkey in the summer on a free transfer.
However, Football Insider are reporting a fresh twist in the form of discussions between Ferdinand and his counterparts in Turkey.
Quiz: Are these 15 QPR facts genuine or not?
He’s looking to recoup £750k for the service of Osayi-Samuel and aiming to strike a deal that takes the winger to Turkey this month rather than in the summer.
Osayi-Samuel has made 21 appearances in the Championship this season for the R’s, returning three goals and registering two assists.
He’s been tasked with carrying the creative burden left by Eberechi Eze, who departed West London for Crystal Palace back in the summer transfer window.
However, Osayi-Samuel’s own future has been a talking point and he’s been unable to agree a new contract with the R’s. That leads us to this point with six months remaining on his deal.
QPR currently sit 19th in the Championship table, five points above the relegation zone following a midweek win over Luton Town.
This is probably a sensible move from Ferdinand.
Losing a player like Osayi-Samuel on a free would be a sickener for the R’s. They’ve got to recoup some sort of fee, even if that is only £750k.
If they can recoup that this month rather than losing the 23-year-old to Fenerbahce on a free in the summer it offers Mark Warburton a chance to reinvest.
That’s important given QPR’s precarious position in the table and the importance of the winger.
