Fresh bid for O’Brien and interest in Wimbledon defender: The latest Huddersfield Town transfer talking points

Huddersfield Town have surprised many this season by battling up towards the top end of the table when many expected them to be right at the other end of the division.

The Terriers have instead found themselves as potential play-off contenders – and they’ll be desperate to try and bring in some fresh faces in the winter window if they can, to ensure they continue to battle at the right end of the league.

Carlos Corberan has got the team playing some good football right now – and they perhaps only need one or two additions to freshen up their side and ensure they can kick on.

But what are the latest rumblings in regards to transfer rumours with the side?

Quiz: 30 questions about some of Huddersfield Town’s best ever goalkeepers – Can you score 100% correct

1 of 30

1. What nationality is Nico Vaesen?

Lewis O’Brien out the exit door?

Lewis O’Brien was tipped for a move away in the summer with Premier League side Leeds interested in bringing the player in. Instead, he stayed on at Huddersfield and has continued to go from strength-to-strength there.

The interest doesn’t appear to have gone away though and with fresh reports from Football Insider suggesting that a deal could be done for £10m, the Elland Road side may match that fee.

If they did, it would be hard for the Terriers to turn down, especially in their current situation and with the side battling in the second tier.

It’s a large sum of money that could be reinvested elsewhere – so they may have to think twice about keeping him again if a bid of that size does come in for the player.

They’ll have to consider then if it is worth losing the player to get such a substantial amount of money. There are areas elsewhere that Huddersfield could strengthen with the funds and if the money was used shrewdly, it could really help the side push on.

The gamble comes in whether letting O’Brien go would do more harm then good. The player is still key to the Terriers and, regardless of money on the table, his absence could be felt hard. It means they’ll have a big decision to make in January if a bid does come in – and it will ultimately come down to whether Corberan would rather solidify other areas of his team or keep the current unit and their best players together.

Huddersfield contemplating Nesta Guinnness-Walker move

In terms of incomings for the Terriers, there haven’t been too many names linked with a switch as of yet.

One player that has been suggested though is Guinness-Walker, who is currently plying his trade for Wimbledon. As reported by London News Online the club are believed to be keen on a deal.

He’s only young and has the potential to get even better – and they aren’t alone in registering an interest in the player, with other sides in the Terriers division also rumoured to be considering a deal for the player.

It means that they may have a fight on their hands to secure his signature – and Wimbledon themselves will not want to sell – but if they can find the funds to make a decent offer, then there is every chance they could land him.

The player himself would not be a bad addition by Huddersfield. It could be considered a cheap and smart purchase by the club if they could land him.

He’s been key for Wimbledon this year and although he has a lack of EFL experience, he has the potential to grow. As with any young player, the opportunity is there to ween him into Championship football and create what could be a solid player going forward. There is the scope for a lot of improvement in him and he could be picked up on the cheap too. It might then, be worth taking the gamble to bring him in.
