Blackpool are set to extend Daniel Ballard's loan spell from Arsenal until the end of the season, according to Goal's Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts.

Ballard, who hasn't yet made a senior appearances at the Emirates Stadium, initially made the switch to Bloomfield Road until 31 January to gain valuable experience at senior level.

However, following an impressive three months with the Seasiders, the Northern Ireland international is expected to stay in Lancashire for the remainder of the current campaign.

Quiz: Which club did Blackpool sell each of these 20 players to?

Ballard's only other experience of first-team football came during a brief loan spell at League Two outfit Swindon Town when he made three appearances in all competitions last season.

But the defender has exceeded expectations under Neil Critchley, featuring five times in both the FA Cup and league, and played 90 minutes during Blackpool's recent draw with rivals Accrington Stanley.

Blackpool currently sit 12th in the League One standings following just one defeat in their previous nine matches.

The Verdict

This extension doesn't come as much of a surprise, and it's a deal that suits all three parties.

The only thing I would saying looking on is that from Arsenal's point of view, they'd want Blackpool to increase Ballard's game-time.

Five appearances just isn't enough, although with the Seasiders already playing catch-up in the league, and still in the FA Cup, hopefully Ballard's opportunities will increase heading into the New Year and he can therefore make himself a regular in the team.
