The Echo News is reporting that Southend United legend Freddy Eastwood might quit football after not being offered a new deal by the club.

30-year-old striker scored 77 goals in over two hundred appearances in two spells with the Shrimpers. However, the most recent spell was less prolific than the previous one and manager Phil Brown decided against offering him an extension.

"I’m in no great rush to sign for anyone and I will take the next four to six weeks to think about what I do next and if I want to keep on playing," player says. "I think fitness wise I’m fine to carry on playing so it’s going to come down to whether or not I want to.

"I’m not really interested in going to play for a club miles away because I don’t think I would enjoy that if I’m honest. I will wait and see if I get any offers and what comes up but it’s a big decision and one I’m not going to rush in to making."

Welshman adds that he might not stayed even if the club offered him a new contract.

"If I had been given another contract it wouldn’t have been a straight forward decision for me. I spoke to the manager about that because I have a great relationship with him and he said there could be something on the table for me with less money.

"It wasn’t really about that though and even if I had been offered the same wages it still would’ve been a tough decision for me."
