Brentford manager Thomas Frank has made an interesting observation in the wake of last weekend's draw with Birmingham City.

He implied that, in previous seasons, it is a point that the Bees may not have picked up having had a tendancy to crumble once behind in the past, but he was quick to compliment his side on the character shown.

"We are ready for it," he told his pre-match press conference regarding this weekend's clash with Blackburn Rovers, reported by the club's official Twitter account.

"We just showed a top character away to Birmingham.

"In previous years we might have crumbled and being too soft. We are on the right path and we just need to continue"

QUIZ: How much do you know about Brentford’s January signings?

Lukasz Jutkiewicz gave the Blues a first half lead, no doubt leading to concerns in the away end that their promotion hopes may be about to take a big blow, but Ethan Pinnock eased those worries moment later with his first goal for the club.

It was a result which left them in fourth place with 32 matches played, four points behind second placed Leeds United, but with a game in hand on all of those above them.

Frank also revealed in his conference that key winger Bryan Mbeumo would be returning to the starting XI for the visit of Tony Mowbray's men.

The Frenchman missed the Blues' clash through injury but will now return to his rightful place in attack.

The verdict

I think Frank is absolutely spot on with what he has said regarding the club's character in games.

You only have to look at their defensive record to see how much more resilient they have become this term and that has clearly transferred throughout the whole team.

A win against Blackburn on Saturday and they will be in a really strong position to push for automatic promotion during the rest of the season.
