Derby County boss Frank Lampard has warned his side that they need to start keeping clean sheets, with the Rams now 14 games without one in all competitions.

Fikayo Tomori's late own goal on Saturday didn't stop Derby from picking up all three points, however it did extend this unwanted run that is harming Lampard's side.

And, the rookie boss told Derbyshire Live that whilst winning is always the priority, they do need to stop shipping goals.

"It is frustrating if it changes a result, so yes, there was a little bit of frustration but not too much. But we must work on it because your base is a clean sheet.

"On another day, not keeping that clean sheet costs you points and that is something we need to tighten up on if we have the aspirations to get to where we want to be."

The East Midlands side are back in action this weekend when they travel to Wigan, where they will be hoping for a first shut out in 13 league games.

Despite their win last time out over the Swans, Lampard's side remain outside the play-offs, although only on goal difference.

The Verdict

There's no getting away from the fact that Derby's run without a clean sheet is a major concern.

Obviously, with their attacking talent they will always fancy their chances of outscoring the opposition but you need to be more solid if you are to push for the top two places in the Championship.

It's a clear area of improvement and if they do sort it out then the Rams will think they're capable of having a memorable campaign.
