Derby boss Frank Lampard has revealed that contract talks are ongoing with Kelle Roos, with the keepers current deal up in the summer.

The 26-year-old started the season as number two to Scott Carson, however he has been given an extended run in the side recently with the ex-England stopper injured.

However, Roos has seriously impressed in that time and he actually kept Carson out for the game against Preston at the start of the month when the 33-year-old had to settle for a place on the bench.

And, the club tweeted today revealing that Lampard had spoken about Roos' contract situation ahead of the midweek game against Millwall.

"Lampard confirms that contract talks are ongoing with @KellsRoos, and he hopes that the club and player can find the best solution. The boss has praised his recent form and he also describes Roos as a positive influence in the dressing room."

That clearly shows how pleased the Rams manager is with his keeper and Roos will hope to keep the shirt moving forward, starting with the game against the Lions.

Victory at Pride Park on Wednesday will move Derby back into the play-off places.

The Verdict

Derby should be doing all they can to tie Roos down to a long-term deal and it would be thoroughly deserved.

He has done extremely well since he has been given a chance and is clearly well respected by the coaching staff and players.

You would expect an agreement to be reached as it would make sense for all parties.
