Frank Lampard has confirmed that Tom Huddlestone will return to training this week, indicating he could feature in Saturday's clash against Leeds United.

The experienced midfielder missed the friendly victory against Wolves a week before the season started and was absent against Reading for the Championship opener on Friday night.

However, the Rams boss told the Derbyshire Telegraph that he didn't want to risk the player and gave an update on his situation.

"Tom is trying to get fit, but we have got to be a bit careful. He is fine, he will be training next week."

Whether the former Spurs man will get into the team remains to be seen, with Joe Ledley likely to be the man to miss out if Huddlestone does play.

Despite snatching a win thanks to Tom Lawrence's fantastic stoppage time header at the Madejski Stadium, Lampard's men were poor on the night and certainly didn't deserve the win.

Therefore, Lampard might consider making changes for the visit of Leeds this weekend, who arrive after a superb win and display against Stoke.

The Verdict

This will be a big boost for Lampard as they looked as though they missed Huddlestone big time on Friday night.

His ability on the ball and passing range is superb, qualities that Lampard will appreciate. They struggled to play out from the back and couldn't retain possession well enough against the Royals.

Huddlestone would rectify that and even if he doesn't start he will be a very good option to have back.
