Derby County made their first two signings of the summer transfer window recently, bringing in Mason Mount on loan from Chelsea and Harry Wilson on loan from Liverpool.

Frank Lampard is the new Derby manager after taking over this summer and Mount is expected to be the first of many players joining the Rams on loan from Chelsea, given the former midfielder's links with the Blues.

Lampard needs to use his special relationship with Chelsea to address a problem position next: centre-half.

Curtis Davies penned a new deal at Pride Park recently, which is a major boost, but he needs a centre-back partner.

Richard Keogh is now getting on and Alex Pearce could be offloaded as he is a back-up choice at best.

Chelsea are not afraid of loaning out any players who do not make the cut for the first-team squad and there are loads of centre-backs who could bolster Lampard's options.

If he had a pick of all the central defenders on Chelsea's books, other than the first-team ones, Lampard would probably take Tomas Kalas on loan.

The Czech Republic international has shone in the past two seasons on loan at Fulham but he could make a permanent move to Craven Cottage.

There are other decent options there for Derby, including Wales international Ethan Ampadu, Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo, USA international Matt Miazga, Jamaica international Michael Hector and England youth international Fikayo Tomori.

All of these young players would certainly push Keogh for a starting spot, if not replace him on the pitch.

With so many options available to him, it is time Lampard revisited his old club and made enquiries about any young centre-halves who could join him on loan for the season to partner Davies and provide a short-term solution in the central defensive department.
