Frank Lampard's Derby County kicked off the EFL season with a win at the Madejski Stadium, but he admitted that there was plenty to occupy his mind in the coming days.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson gave the home side the lead, but the Rams fought back with an equaliser from Chelsea loanee Mason Mount, before Tom Lawrence nodded in a winner deep into stoppage time.

Whilst it got three points on the board for Lampard, he confessed there was still plenty keeping him busy at Pride Park.

"I'm happy with the last-second winner," he told the Derby Telegraph. "But there's lots for us to do, there’s definitely still work to do. We have to stay level. I'm level deep inside. I don’t want to get carried away because I know it can’t be like this every week."

The Rams enjoyed 66% possession but couldn't make that count against a resolute Reading side. Tipped as one of the favourites to finish in the bottom half, Lampard was still delighted to get off the mark early against the Royals.

"It’s a start for us, it’s feet on the ground."

The Verdict

Of course Lampard was happy, but there's plenty of food for thought. It felt very much like an opening day, Derby were a little disjointed and at times sloppy in possession.

It could be a long season for Reading, but they certainly didn't shame themselves either and on that performance, they might not be the strugglers many suspect they will be.
