New Derby County manager Frank Lampard is already eyeing the possibility of signing a Chelsea player.

Former Chelsea legend Lampard wants to sign defender Jay Dasilva for the upcoming campaign, The Mirror reports.

Dasilva enjoyed a very impressive loan stint at Charlton Athletic in League One last season and the South London club are desperate for him to return after he won the club’s Player of the Year accolade.

The England under-21 international has recently starred in the Toulon Tournament for his country, where both Frank Lampard and his assistant Jody Morris cast their eyes over his displays.

The 20-year-old plays as a left-back, a position Derby are keen to strengthen, and has the ability to join up with the winger for attacks as well as providing defensive solidity.

But the Rams face competition from his signature, not only from Charlton, but also from at least two Premier League side and a host of Championship clubs.

Dasilva is highly rated by Chelsea and they have tied the young defender down to a four-year deal, with three years left to run on that contract.

Derby are hopeful that Lampard’s links with Chelsea will push them to the front of the queue in this chase.

The Verdict

Dasilva was one of the best defenders in the third tier last season and he appears ready to make the step up.

Already starring for England’s under-21 team, it appears that the talented youngster has a big future ahead of him.

Lampard will surely be looking to Chelsea to do him some favours and loaning Dasilva to him could be a good start to his summer spending.
