Fran Villalba has sent a message to Birmingham City fans on social media after the win over Barnsley at St Andrew's last night.

The Blues continued their encouraging start to the Championship season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Barnsley - thanks to goals from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Alvaro Gimenez.

After a goalless first half, Jutkiewicz gave Birmingham a deserved lead in the 69th minute with a powerful header from Wes Harding's cross.

Gimenez doubled either advantage eight minutes later with a sublime finish, chipping the ball over Barnsley goalkeeper Sami Radlinger for his first goal for the Blues.

Villalba - who joined the Blues from Valencia earlier this summer - sent a message to Birmingham fans after the game on social media, describing the atmosphere at St Andrew's as amazing.

The 21-year-old has played in every Championship game for Birmingham since joining from Valencia and is quickly becoming a fans' favourite with Blues supporters.

Birmingham are now up to eighth in the Championship table after taking seven points from their opening four matches and face Swansea City in their next game at the weekend.

The Verdict

Villalba is an exciting player and he could be a great signing for Birmingham. He's a very talented player and has been Birmingham's most creative force so far this season.

He's fast becoming a fans' favourite at St Andrew's and I'm sure Birmingham supporters will appreciate his message to them on social media.

I thought Birmingham may struggle in the Championship this season, but they've made a very encouraging start to the new season and can go into their game against Swansea at the weekend full of confidence.
