It has been suggested that promotion for Leeds United will all but rule out a future at the club for Jay-Roy Grot.

Leeds signed Grot during the summer of 2017, but his first season at Elland Road was uninspiring, with the Dutchman scoring just once in 20 appearances and never really settling under Thomas Christiansen or Paul Heckingbottom.

Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival coincided with his first move away, with Grot heading to VVV-Venelo on loan. He scored six goals and registered three assists there, earning a move to Vitesse ahead of the current campaign.

However, Grot hasn’t had the same impact in the Eredivisie and is now in the treatment room long-term.

A report in Leeds Live has looked at the 22-year-old’s Leeds United future, now, with Grot still having 12 months left on his deal at Elland Road.

QUIZ: Are these 15 Leeds United statements true or false?

It states that should Leeds go on and win promotion this season to the Premier League, it will all-but bring the end for Grot at the West Yorkshire club.

As things stand, Leeds sit top of the Championship table with nine games of the season remaining, with a place in the Premier League on the brink for Bielsa’s side.

The Verdict

Grot arrived as part of a mass signing spree overseen by Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta, which, ultimately, backfired on the club.

He earned a long contract without much thought and Leeds are now coming to the end of that.

Honestly, you feel that Grot’s future isn’t dependant on Leeds playing in the Premier League, it is too hard to see him even getting a chance if Leeds remain a Championship side.
