Craig Gardner has become the first new addition to Tony Pulis' coaching staff at Sheffield Wednesday, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the Yorkshire club.

The 33-year-old left Birmingham City earlier this week and Wednesday confirmed this morning that he'd become the first person to be appointed to Pulis' coaching team.

Gardner played under the new Owls boss at West Bromwich Albion and has backed the Welshman to succeed at Hillsborough.

He said: "I know what he’s like, I know he’s going to bring success here. I want to be part of that."

The Englishman retired as a player earlier this year to take up a coaching role at Birmingham and took charge of the Blues alongside Steve Spooner following Pep Clotet's exit at the end of last season.

The former midfielder was something of a Midlands journeyman, featuring for Aston Villa, Birmingham, and West Brom.

Pulis has labelled Gardner as a "top quality character" and indicated he has brought him in to question his ideas.

Did these 17 Sheffield Wednesday players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

The 33-year-old's arrival has certainly caught the attention of the Hillsborough faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
