Kenny Jackett believes that Wolves will be challenging for the top half of the Premier League next season.

The club owe some of their recent success to Jackett because he brought them back into the Championship which gave them the platform to progress into the top division, although the owners played a much bigger part in that.

Wolves are currently on 99 points and have been confirmed as the champions with the nearest challengers Cardiff 10 points behind. They had a brief wobble in March, but a nine game unbeaten run has seen them through with recent opponents Sheffield Wednesday being the only team to stop them scoring during that time.

Portsmouth manager Jackett had this to say about his former club to Portsmouth News: "I am delighted for Wolves, several messages were sent and returned, congratulations to them."

"It’s a massive club and the way the owners have come in and backed it means it looks like it could keep going as well."

"It has potential to be in the top 10 of the Premier League if they get it right, which they’ll be working really hard to achieve next season, I’m sure. They’ll take some stopping."

The Verdict

It's no surprise that Jackett is backing them to do well in the Premier League because they have won over many people with their mixture of quality and ability to grind out wins when needed. They have players that are obviously Premier League quality such as Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota, which will help significantly next season.

Finishing in the top 10 is ambitious but not unrealistic because the difference between ninth and last place in the Premier League is only 16 points, so there is little to separate the teams. Brighton, Huddersfield and Newcastle have all done well this season and look likely to stay up, so there is nothing to suggest that Wolves couldn't do the same.
