Michael Appleton has revealed that he would be interested in replacing Darren Moore as the new West Brom manager.

The former Oxford boss spent two years as a player at The Hawthorns and then moved into coaching Albion's youth team before going on to be an assistant.

And, he told Sky Sports that he still is in touch with people at the club and that he would welcome a call to replace Moore.

"The reality is, I know a lot of people at West Brom, from the chief executive down to the people who work on a matchday. They have all got my number, it has not changed in all that time, so we will watch this space really."

Whether Albion turn to the 43-year-old remains to be seen, with former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic emerging as a leading contender.

Moore was sacked on Saturday night, just hours after the Baggies had been held to a 1-1 draw against bottom of the table Ipswich at home, although they remain fourth in the league.

The Verdict

This would be an interesting move as even though he has predominantly worked in the lower leagues, Appleton is widely considered to be a good coach.

That, combined with his history with the club may make him a contender and it would be a brilliant job for Appleton.

However, you would expect Albion to look elsewhere, with Jokanovic the standout candidate.
