Wolves continued their positive start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Fulham on Friday night.

With Cardiff losing, they are now two points clear at the top and four ahead of third as they go into the international break.

This form has seen Nuno Espirito Santo's men come in for praise and that includes from a former Birmingham City and West Brom player.

Writing for the Express & Star, Kevin Phillips revealed how he has been impressed with the many qualities the Wolves side has. “It was not the best I have seen the play, but the managed to get the job done and that is a sign of a strong side. They have got players on the pitch that can hurt you in any given moment – that have pace and their defence is solid.”

The Derby County assistant coach think Wolves are still the team to beat for everyone in the division. “I certainly will not be changing my mind about them being the favourites for promotion, although there is still a long way to go.” The Black Country side face a trip to Reading when the Championship resumes.

The Verdict

It's fair to say Kevin Phillips won't be a favourite with Wolves fans given the heartbreak he caused over the years, but they will certainly appreciate his comments here.

Wolves produced a magnificent performance to beat Derby earlier in the season, so the former Sunderland striker will have seen first hand how good they are.

Ultimately, he is right. Wolves are favourites for promotion and have a lot of quality, now it's about maintaining these levels for the rest of the season.
