Former West Brom manager Steve Clarke has given his thoughts on the decision to sack Darren Moore from the club, comparing it to how he was let go, report the Telegraph.

Clarke was sacked by the Baggies back in 2013 and has since worked his way through Reading and upto Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League.

Speaking on his time at the Hawthorns, he said:

“It was cut short abruptly, which is something historically that West Brom have done - as you’ve recently seen with Darren Moore.

“That was a very strange decision and ruthless at that stage of the season.

“Maybe the old chairman [Jeremy Peace] has left a legacy there which has been acted upon.”

West Brom parted company with Moore just over a month ago after losing heavily to Leeds United and drawing with Ipswich Town, replacing him temporarily with coach Jimmy Shan.

Since then, they have won all three of their games, seeing off Swansea City, Brentford and Birmingham City to keep up their faint hopes of automatic promotion.

They currently sit in fourth place with seven matches remaining of the season but with six points to make up if they are to make the top two.

The verdict

Clarke is spot on here.

It is a very noticeable trait within the club, and Clarke calling the decision to sack Moore ‘strange’ is true but also a huge understatement.

Sacking a manager when he has your team sat fourth in the league is borderline disgraceful.
