Former Swansea City defender Federico Fernandez has called for club legend Angel Rangel to be the club's next chairman.

It came after the now Queens Park Rangers defender shared a post on Instagram reminiscing on his final appearance for the South Wales side this time last year, thanking the Swansea fans again for his time at the club.

But in the comments, his former teammate and compatriot Fernandez made the bold, if casual, shout for him to be made the next chairman, to which Rangel replied in Spanish: "Yes, Machine, with you!"

Signed from Terassa FC in 2007, Rangel went on to make nearly 400 appearances over his 11 season stint at the Liberty Stadium, and was present for their rise through the Football League and into the Premier League.

He left last summer after his contract expired, eventually joining Queens Park Rangers on free transfer where he made 20 appearances.

The verdict

Obviously the likelihood is that Fernandez meant what he said on complete jest, but it also may not be the worst idea in the world.

There is no bigger legend at the club than Rangel and he loves the club as well. That is arguably exactly the type of person they need overseeing things.

It would certainly be a bit of a risk but why not take it?
