Former Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric has broken his silence on a potential takeover of Aston Villa, denying he is part of any consortium to take over the club.

In a report for the Birmingham Mail, Mandaric has spoken of his intentions, but insists that he is happy with his club in Slovenia and has important business to attend too with the club, rather than thinking of making a move for Villa.

"Aston Villa is an historic big English club. But on the other hand I just cannot really say I am making any moves at this time. There is a group of people who know me quite well and if I can help them to move forward I will do this."

“They have asked for my advice. But at this time I couldn’t say I am part of a takeover." added Mandaric.

The Villans are looking to raise funds and owner Tony Xia is open to selling the club to leave it in capable hands following two big summers of spending but no promotion back to the Premier League.

Manager Steve Bruce is in a predicament this summer as he looks to improve his squad but with minimal funding and backing from the board. The club are expected to lose the likes of Jack Grealish and James Chester in the coming weeks as the financial squeeze tightens.
