Former Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham defender Guy Branston claims the Owls’ key men are not performing as the two sides gear up for Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.
Jos Luhukay is a man under serious pressure, with a 4-2 defeat for Wednesday against Blackburn last time out making it six defeats in their last eight games.
That has left the side just five points above the relegation zone, with an important win over Bolton last week massive for the team.
Whilst the Millers are below them in the table, they have impressed with their fighting spirit and they will hope to make it tough for the hosts at Hillsborough on Saturday.
And, Branston told the Sheffield Star several big players need to step up for the Owls with the scrutiny building:
“Wednesday have massively under-performed so far. Some of the players that have been there for quite a while are just not delivering as they should be.
“There are players who should be doing better. But Wednesday are reeling at the minute and the pressure is on them.”
Paul Warne’s men know that a victory against their local rivals will see them leapfrog their opponents this weekend in the Championship table.
It’s hard to disagree with anything that the 39-year-old has said here, with Wednesday seriously underperforming.
When that’s the case, you have to look at the big players and too many aren’t doing enough for the side, although there is obviously blame that can be attached to the manager and those above Luhukay too.
Either way, the focus now is about getting a win against Rotherham which would help ease any relegation concerns.
