Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal was in an emotional state following his return to Hillsborough this afternoon, after receiving a warming reception from the Wednesday fans.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post following the game, the Portguese manager, now in charge of Swansea, revealed he 'almost cried' because of how well he was received by the Hillsborough faithful.

His new side had played out a 0-0 draw with the Championship side in the early kickoff in the FA Cup today, but the result was the last thing on Carvalhal's mind following the game.

“I must say thank you to Sheffield Wednesday for the way that the fans received me, the buzz in the stadium, the players, also the manager (Jos Luhukay), the staff, everybody. It’s the part that I love in football." said Carvalhal.

“I felt big recompense for everything I gave to Sheffield Wednesday and I’m very proud. It’s something I’ll never forget. I tried to concentrate on the things that I must do but I must tell you it was hard. “To come back after five years or 10 years will be great. To come back after eight weeks and have this kind of reception makes me the most happy manager in the world.

The game was a dismal affair in the end with neither side really having any clear-cut chances, although Owls 'keeper Cameron Dawson did pull off a stunning save to keep his clean sheet intact at the end of the 90 minutes.

However, it was the reception and return of Carvlhal which dominated proceedings, and the two clubs wil play out a replay next week for a place in the last eight of the FA Cup.
