Former Charlton Athletic defender Oguchi Onyeywu has spent the last week on trial with MLS side New York City FC, but any potential move could be in jeopardy after the club remains undecided on whether or not to sign the player, according to MLS Soccer.

American international Onyeywu signed for Charlton last summer, but was less than impressive, making only three appearances, and was subsequently released last month.

The 33-year-old returned to the USA for a trial with New York City, but has seemingly not done enough to impress as manager Jason Kreis appeared to stall on offering the former QPR player a contract.

“It’s been interesting,” he told MLS Soccer. “He’s a really big body, and we’re looking to make some additions to the team in the summer. It’s a consideration.”

“We probably aren’t going to rush into anything. But who knows? We’ll see over the next four, five days how he does.”

Onyeywu has previously enjoyed spells in English football with Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday, and the doubts over his move to the MLS could see the former AC Milan defender make a return to the Football League.
