Former Sheffield United favourite Mark Duffy felt the Blades were too passive as they fell to defeat at Watford last night.

A Joao Pedro goal in the second half, finishing off a swift counter attack after the visitors had a corner, was enough to seal the points for the Hornets on what was a frustrating night for Paul Heckingbottom's side.

Whilst the Yorkshire outfit were competitive, they managed just three shots on target and struggled to really impose themselves on the game.

And, taking to Twitter, former midfielder Duffy explained where he felt the side went wrong at Vicarage Road.

"Tough night for the blades men. Thought they lacked that little bit of bite in their play an didn’t give the front lads any real quality to work with. Thought Watford looked a real threat on the break, they will cause teams problems."

Heckingbottom's side were missing a few players for the game, including new recruit Anel Ahmedhodžić and Chris Basham. They are back in action this weekend when they take on Millwall.

The verdict

This was a tough game for the Blades and most observers would agree with Duffy's verdict of the game here.

Sheffield United just couldn't control the game as they would've wanted and they did lack that spark and creativity in the final third, which meant they didn't create too many clear chances.

But, there are valid reasons for that. Firstly, they came up against a very good Watford side and Heckingbottom wasn't able to pick his best XI, so there's obviously no reason for panic.
