Former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder is reportedly in talks with a new club regarding their managerial vacancy.

That is according to the Daily Record in Scotland, who claim that Wilder has 'made his pitch' to become the next Aberdeen boss.

Indeed, their report claims that the 55-year-old has held talks with Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows.

The Scottish Premiership outfit are seeking a new boss after sacking former manager Jim Goodwin at the end of January following a 6-0 away defeat at Hibernian.

Wilder has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Middlesbrough back in October, with the club languishing in the depths of the Championship at the time.

Prior to that, Wilder did a good job there last term, guiding them from the bottom half into play-off contention, only to miss out by one place in the end.

Of course, arguably Wilder's best work was done at Sheffield United, where he led the Blades from League One to a 9th place finish in the Premier League in four seasons.

He was sacked in 2021, though, as the club were on their way to top-flight relegation.

Prior to those roles, Wilder held managerial roles with Northampton Town and Oxford United.

The Verdict

It would be great to see Chris Wilder back in management.

Given all the changes of manager in the Championship in recent months, it's actually been quite surprising that none of those clubs have opted for the 55-year-old.

It would certainly be interesting to see how he got on in Scotland, and indeed how long he remained there.

With Aberdeen currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership, it doesn't seem as though it would be a disastrous job to go into mid-season, with the team showing some decent form of late.
