Former Queens Park Rangers defender Nedum Onuoha has cast doubt over the future of Eberechi Eze, claiming the midfielder should test himself at a higher level.

The 21-year-old has been one of QPR's star players this season, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists in 36 Championship appearances.

The England youth international's form has not gone unrecognised, with both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur said to be interested in his signature.

Speaking to Love Sport Radio, Onuoha explained how impressed he had been with Eze's form before arguing that he needs the opportunity to play at a higher level.

The former Manchester City and QPR man said: "I played with him. He's a friend of mine. And obviously he plays for QPR, that was a big part of my career and I hope he stays but I also hope that he gets the opportunities to play at a high level and really test himself and see if he can be amongst that company.

"So if he's to leave, I think the fans will thank him for everything he's done. And I want to see what he's like playing in a different team, maybe in a bigger stadium, maybe bigger atmosphere, maybe some bigger games."

Following a poor run of form, QPR are now unbeaten in their last five league matches and have moved up into 14th in the Championship table, nine points adrift of the playoffs.

The verdict

Eze has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season and plays a crucial role in Mark Warburton's system.

Alongside Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ilias Chair, he is part of a youthful QPR squad that Warburton will look to develop over the next few seasons.

However, given the level of their performances it is likely that Premier League clubs will test QPR's resolve in the transfer market this summer and Eze could move on for the right price.
