Reports from HITC have revealed that a source close to the publication has hinted that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Paul Hurst are the favourites to land the vacant manager’s position at Northampton Town.

This revelation comes less than 24 hours after the League One side announced that they had parted ways with their manager Justin Edinburgh following on from the club’s poor start to the season, which has seen them lose all four of their opening games in the league.

The last position Hasselbaink held was as the manager of Queens Park Rangers whereas Paul Hurst is currently employed as the manager of Shrewsbury Town.

The Dutchman was axed from his job at QPR last November and is considered the favourite for the position as he would not cost the club any compensation.

Hasselbaink is reportedly keen to get back into management.

The Verdict

Here at FLW, we think Hasselbaink seems like the obvious choice for Northampton.

As stated, the former Chelsea player would cost no compensation to bring into the role and he has also had some success at lower league level when he guided Burton Albion to the League Two title in the 2014/15 season.

Northampton can’t exactly do much worse given the fact they haven’t won in 12 games.
