Speaking to West Brom News, former Albion striker Kevin Phillips has suggested that the Baggies might well have their eyes on forward Josh King, if Bournemouth are relegated from the Premier League this season.

Albion seem set to get themselves a chance at winning promotion on the pitch with the way the Premier League and Championship have set out their stalls so far, and that therefore means Bournemouth could be at risk of relegation.

And, if the pair do swap divisions this summer, Phillips reckons King would be a decent shout as a transfer target for the Albion.

He said:

“100 per cent [they should look at him.]

“He’s a good player but if top-six teams are supposedly after him, they’re going to have to battle if they really want him and you might have to pay over the odds.

“King is the sort of player who’s got experience in the Premier League who can play in the Premier League and score goals in the Premier League. It’s just getting the best out of them.

“King’s a little bit quiet, he’s had a few injuries, but on his day he’s a right handful and he’s a good target man as well.

“He’s a player who would certainly be on your radar, if not top of the list.”

The Verdict

King is bound to attract interest this summer transfer window if he does see his Bournemouth side get relegated and fans of the Albion would surely like to see a player of his calibre arrive at The Hawthorns.

How much he costs might well prove a sticking point and other sides are bound to be keen but he'd certainly be guaranteed first team football with the Baggies and that can count for a lot for a player who has suddenly dropped out of the top flight.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, will be doing all they can to try and avoid the drop altogether.
