Former Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has praised the progress of Preston striker Jordan Hugill, in an interview with the Lilywhites' official website.

The popular figure enjoyed prolific spells with both sides, and his complimentary words will come as a huge honour to 25-year-old Hugill.

The striker had looked destined to leave Deepdale this summer, with a host of clubs interested in his signature, but manager Alex Neil convinced the player to remain with the club.

Preston started the season strongly, occupying an early playoff spot, but a poor run of form has seen the Lancashire-based side fall to fourteenth in the table, five points away from the top-six.

Hugill has seven strikes already to his name this semester, with Davies extremely impressed by the striker’s output.

“To see Jordan develop over the period I was at the club to where he is now I think it’s all down to him and his desire, his dedication and his passion to prove he can do it at this level,” said the 40-year-old.

“He’s put in the hard graft and now he’s one of the best strikers in the league.”

The Verdict

Hugill has come a long way in the past couple of seasons, and his efforts have been recognised by all associated with the club.

The striker is now considered one of the best in the division, scoring goals on a regular basis, and he could make all the difference as Neil’s side chase a playoff spot.

A good performance in the Lancashire derby against Bolton would endear him further to Preston fans, and Hugill could be the match-winner this Friday.
