According to reports from the Birmingham Mail, Harry Redknapp has confirmed that former Spurs and Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong is currently training with Birmingham City.

This comes following his release from Norwich as the 31-year-old now finds himself in search of a new club.

Bassong, who played under Redknapp during his time at Tottenham, is reportedly using the club’s training facilities in a bid to get his fitness up.

Should that happen then the Blues boss hasn’t shied away from the fact that the Cameroonian could be the answer to his club’s defensive worries.

The veteran manager is clearly a big fan of his former player describing the former Norwich player of the year as “still a very good player”.

With Bristol City rejecting the initial two bids sent in by Birmingham for Aden Flint, it looks like Redknapp could turn to free-agent Bassong in order to bolster his defence up.

The Verdict

On a free transfer, you can’t really go wrong.

That and the player is unlikely to be fussy about his wages given that it seems like Birmingham or nothing for Bassong.

The 31-year-old is still a competent player and can be utilised well within Redknapp’s Birmingham side.

Bassong hardly featured for Norwich last season, spending most of his time on the bench during the club’s return to the Championship.

The second division is a good level for the player most likely nearing the end of his career and here at FLW, we think Redknapp can help him recapture his best form.
