Former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes has claimed that he held talks with Swansea City back in 2016 when the Swans were still part of the Premier League.

Moyes ended up being appointed Sunderland manager in July 2016, however he had a chance to take over at Swansea that same summer after holding talks with the Swansea board.

The manager at the time of the rumoured interest in Moyes was Francesco Guidolin, who was appointed manager at The Liberty Stadium in January 2016 and finished the 2015-2016 season on a strong note, guiding the Swans away from relegation table.

The former Udinese manager didn't last much longer the following season having signed a two-year contract in May 2016, being sacked in October and being replaced by former USA boss Bob Bradley.

Moyes began his management career with Preston North End in 1998 before moving on to Everton in 2004 and enjoying 11 seasons at Goodison Park, establishing the Toffees in the top half of the Premier League before being recommended as Sir Alex Ferguson's replacement at Manchester United in 2013 by the man himself.

Moyes left Man United in April 2014, not even a year into his six-year contract, and then spent a year with La Liga side Real Sociedad after being appointed manager in November 2014.

Since the Swansea links, Moyes has been manager of Sunderland and West Ham United, but has been out of work since May 2018.

The Verdict

For Swansea, things could have been a lot different if Moyes had been appointed manager almost four years ago.

The experienced Scotsman would have brought plenty of fight and spirit to the dressing room at The Liberty Stadium, as well as bags of Premier League experience, and he would have been a good choice for the Swansea board to go for.
