According to the Daily Mail, Carlos Carvalhal’s future at Sheffield Wednesday is in serious doubt, even if he guides the Owls to promotion from the Sky Bet Championship this season.

Carvalhal’s side are at the midway point of their play-off semi-final with Huddersfield Town, which is currently 0-0, and are looking to reach their second play-off final in two years under the Portuguese manager.

However, Wednesday’s owner, Dejphon Chansiri, is understood to be growing restless with Carvalhal after he only managed to guide the Owls to a fourth placed finish in the Championship this season, despite heavy investment.

Former Crystal Palace manager, Alan Pardew, has been lined up as Carvalhal’s replacement, and could take control at Hillsborough even if the Owls are promoted via the play-offs.

Pardew was sacked by Palace in December, with the Eagles struggling in the top-flight and in danger of a relegation battle.

Middlesbrough, who have recently suffered relegation back to the Championship, are also interested in appointing Pardew as their manager ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Carvalhal will be looking to put speculation about his future to one side, and lead the Owls to Wembley on Wednesday evening, when they welcome Huddersfield to Hillsborough for the second-leg of their play-off clash.
