Former West Ham United, Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers full-back Danny Gabbidon has criticised Mark Bowen's appointment as the new manager of EFL Championship side Reading.

Bowen's appointment was heavily criticised by Reading fans with the news being met with derision and fury by football fans across the county.

Bowen, formerly the sporting director at the Royals, who may well have had a role to play in the recent sacking of Jose Gomes last week, has appointed himself as the man who deemed good enough to guide Reading up the table as they currently sit in the relegation zone.

Gabbidon isn't just any player who is criticising the appointment of Bowen.

The defender knows what he's talking about after playing under the tutelage of the Welshman when Bowen first got into coaching back in the early 2000's with Wales as assistant manager to  Mark Hughes, just as Gabbidon was breaking through into the Wales senior setup while in his early 20's.

The Verdict

When a former player who's played at a good enough level speaks out negatively about a former coach of theirs in public, then it's never a good sign that things are going to go well.

In the replies to his tweet, Gabbidon stated that Reading fans should be very worried with the appointment of Bowen in response to a Reading supporter, so therefore  clearly doesn't think that Bowen would be the right person for Reading .
