Adama Traore is a man looking to make it big in the Premier League this season with Wolves after a big money move from Middlesbrough in the summer.

He was one of the players of the season last year in the Sky Bet Championship for Boro as they came so close to winning promotion.

As soon as they were consigned to another year in the second tier, though, it seemed likely Traore would leave the club and so it proved as Wolves signed him up.

This isn't, though, his first spell in the Premier League after spending a short but tough time with Aston Villa as they dropped out of the top flight in 2015/16.

And, speaking to the Express & Star, he has opened up on how tough it was for him at Villa Park.

He said:

"After leaving Barcelona, this was maybe the most difficult moment," he said.

"It was a quick decision to go to Aston Villa, then I was injured there straight away, I didn't know the language or culture.

"It was my first injury too, so I was in the bed with my leg up and couldn't move for two weeks. It was a difficult moment, I couldn't do anything.

"We had four or five managers in one year, they changed everything, we were relegated.

"My family was nervous because we left Barcelona to go to the Premier League and were in the Championship.

"Then Villa wouldn't let me go, they said I had a contract

"Villa is a big team but it isn't like Barcelona and you could see the difference straight away, it was a big difference."

The Verdict

Traore is a better player than he was for Villa and his young age clearly hampered him a bit as he tried to settle.

Going to Villa at that time was tough for senior pros so to try and settle in as a new player at a young age in a new country must have been a tall order for Traore.

He'll now look to prove himself at Wolves.
