Former Charlton Athletic centre back Jorge Teixeira has told the South London Press that he believes Johnnie Jackson has already done enough to prove that he is worthy of being given the top job at the club on a full time basis.

Jackson was quickly put in interim charge after the departure of Nigel Adkins at the Valley and has so far impressed, leading his side to three wins in his first five in charge, with his only defeat coming against Leyton Orient in the Papa John's Trophy.

This has therefore put the coach in a great position to be handed the job on a full time basis, with there yet to be any indication over when a decision will be made.

Now Teixeira has claimed that he feels his former teammate has already done more than enough to land the role:

"As a player he showed us that he is a warrior. He helped and pushed his team-mates. He's been doing a good job [as a manager] and I hope the best for him.

"When I arrived at Charlton, he was a player, the captain and a legend of the club. Afterwards he became a coach there. He was already learning the job of a manager. Now he has had a big opportunity and shown that he can do it."

The Addicks are still sitting in the bottom half of the table and are someway off in the race for the play-offs, which means that whoever takes on the role will have a real job on their hands to turn things around.

Charlton are set to be back in league action on tomorrow as they take on Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Verdict

Jackson is certainly doing all he can to land the job permanently and it would be fair to say that he appears to be the overwhelming favourite right now.

No other names have really been mentioned in the same way as him and he has the results to back up his chances.

The players are clearly giving their all for him and that's all the supporters and Thomas Sandgaard can really ask for.

They have more than enough quality to get out of their current situation and perhaps Jackson really is the man to take them forwards.
