Nottingham Forest have been busy during this summer’s transfer window, signing a number of players to try and bolster their squad going into the new season.

With the permanent addition of first choice goal keeper Costel Pantilimon, it is the outfield positions that will be added to going forward this summer.

After a disappointing 17th place finish for the Tricky Trees last season, improving on that is vital.

Anything worse could spell the end of Aitor Karanka’s time in charge at the City Ground.

While the back line of Forest’s side was somewhat of a shambles last season, there has been some additions made, but more are likely to follow.

Here is a look at the three players Nottingham Forest need to sign before the start of the new season...

Despite with the arrival of centre backs for the Tricky Trees already this transfer window, the arrival of another is likely imminent.

While it may be a long shot, the former Chelsea and Aston Villa defender has been linked with a move to Derby County already this window, and seemingly would be open to another season of Championship football.

His experience and guidance is exactly what Aitor Karanka’s squad have been calling out for, and something they should very much consider.

Already having been linked with a move for the West Ham full back, it looks that a possible transfer may still be on the cards.

Sam Byram, who started just two Premier League games for the Hammers last season, may be tempted to drop back down a division is pursuit of first team football.

Having played the large majority of his career in England’s second division, the 24-year-old would be a strong addition to Karanka’s depleted squad.

While defensive duties will largely take priority for Karanka this summer, finding a new out and out goal scorer could be the difference between and average and successful season at the City Ground.

With the likes of Rudy Gestede, Patrick Bamford and Martin Braithwaite all vying for the starting strikers spot at Middlesbrough, an offer for former talisman Britt Assombalonga wouldn’t do any harm.

Already a proven Championship goal scorer and having played for the club previously, it only makes sense to try lure the Englishman away from the Riverside.
