Former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has weighed in on the Martin O'Neill sacking and new appointment.

Martin O'Neill was sacked earlier today before new manager Sabri Lamouchi was announced less than 20 minutes afterwards.

New manager Lamouchi is a client of the famous Jorge Mendes, an agent to some of the biggest names in football, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Mourinho.

When the news came out, Collymore posted on social media: "Sabri Lamouchi, a Jorge Mendes joint.

"The year is 2035 and every manager,  player and CEO on the planet is advised by Mendes.

"Some fans will point to his improving their club, some gutting the heart from them.

"For me, not a positive influence in the sport."

Forest have previous with Mendes, as Aitor Karanka was also too a client.

O'Neill was unable to guide the club into the top six and finished in the same position as when he took over: ninth.

Out of his 19 games as a coach, O’Neill had won eight, lost eight and drew three.

According to the Guardian, it is understood that a number of key players had turned against O’Neill and allegedly they were unimpressed with the training methods and decisions under O'Neill.

The Verdict

The Mendes link for Lamouchi has to be seen as a positive, really.

It is a big benefit for clubs who have those links, as you can see with Wolves and even the signings of Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves from Benfica.
