Former Manchester United midfielder, Aidan Barlow, is one of several players to be on trial with Doncaster Rovers, as reported by Doncaster Free Press.
The 21-year-old, who is a United graduate, was unable to secure a first-team appearance with The Red Devils, but managed to represent England at both U17 and U18 level.
Best described as an attack-minded midfielder, Barlow is a versatile option who can operate anywhere in the centre of midfield, as well as on the left flank.
Despite his short career revolving around the game at academy level thus far, Barlow spent a short spell with Tromso in Norway’s top-flight, netting twice in seven games during a four month spell.
Having joined the United academy aged six and progressing all the way through, it is clear that Barlow is a talented individual. He is a young, energetic, forward-thinking player who could be a real coup at this stage of his development.
The fact he has been without a club since his release in June 2020 does raise a few question marks though. According to the report, he spent time with Ipswich Town and Stoke City, but nothing progressed from there.
For Barlow it is another chance to break into first-team football and for Richie Wellens, it is an opportunity to recruit a driven 21-year-old who has not been granted enough time to prove himself in the professional game. It may be a risk, but given his potential, it is a risk worth taking.
