Wigan want former Manchester United coach Mike Phelan as their new manager, according to a report in the Sun.

The Latics have had a miserable season in the Championship, and look set to be relegated come the end of the campaign following a season of one too many defeats for the North West club.

And now it appears that Wigan are wanting to employ former Hull City manager and Man United coach Phelan as their next gaffer, with promotion from League One next season no doubt high on the agenda.

The report claims that Phelan is being put forward for the job by former Man United manager Alex Ferguson, who has close ties with Dave Whelan.

Wigan secured a win over already relegated Rotherham United in dramatic fashion yesterday to keep their slim survival hopes alive, with Nick Powell smashing in a late free kick to keep the Latics within seven points of survival.

Wigan fans, what do you think to this? Would Phelan be any good? Let us know in the comments!
