Shaun Derry believes that Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is good enough to play for a top-four Premier League club.
The 23-year-old has been highly influential for Villa this season, scoring six goals and delivering six assists in 31 Championship appearances.
The midfielder played a vital role in helping Dean Smith’s side reach the Championship play-off final, where they will face Derby County at Wembley on May 27.
Derry believes that Grealish deserves to be playing top-flight football next season, regardless of the whether Villa win the play-offs and believes he has the ability to play for a top-four Premier League team.
“For me Jack Grealish, the quicker he’s in the English set-up the better, he’s ready for the Premier League. He has to be in the Premier League next year,” Derry told TalkSPORT 2 on Tuesday (May 21) morning.
“I’m sure he wants to lead his Villa side there, but he needs to be in the Premier League next year and if it is not with Villa, then I think he could play for a top four club.”
Grealish has had an outstanding season for Aston Villa in the Championship and was the driving force behind their ten-match unbeaten run that propelled them into the play-offs.
I agree with Derry that Grealish deserves to be playing Premier League football next season, although I’m not sure if he’s good enough to play for the likes of Manchester City or Liverpool at this stage of his career.
Grealish suffered play-off heartache with Villa at Wembley last season and will be even more determined to ensure his boyhood club secure a return to the Premier League this time around.
