Former Liverpool player joins Yeovil

Yeovil Town have signed Czech Republic central defender Jakub Sokolík on a two-year contract following his release by Liverpool.

Sokolik, 20, who was released by the Premier League club at the end of season spent last season on loan at Southend United but has opted against a move back to Roots Hall to join the Glovers.

Jakub joined the youth academy of Banik Ostrava when he was 6 years old in 1999. He signed for the Liverpool youth academy in 2009 after he was spotted by Eduardo Macia, Liverpool’s chief scout. He made his debut for the reserve team against Everton reserves.

After a successful trial, Sokolík joined Southend on loan on 11 March 2014 for the rest of the season. His first involvement with the club was in a match against Scunthorpe United where he was an unused substitute. He made his debut for the club in a match against Bury on 15 March 2014. He started the match instead of Mark Philips. At the end of 2013–14 season, Sokolik was released by Liverpool.
