In a wide-ranging interview with the Times, James Milner has spoken about his love for Leeds United and how he still follows them to this day.

Today marks the eve of the Champions League final with the experienced midfielder set to feature for Liverpool against current holders Real Madrid.

Certainly, it'll be a proud moment for him and perhaps even fans of the Whites as they see one of their own take to the field in Kiev.

For sure, he's not ever forgotten his roots and his passion for the Whites with part of his interview underlining how he still follows them and has that burning desire to beat Manchester United.

He said:

"Growing up a Leeds fan, I was never allowed to wear a red T-shirt, my old man never allowed it. Seriously. ‘We can’t wear red. We’re Leeds.’

"It was strange when I signed for Liverpool, actually wearing red. My dad made a joke about it, saying, ‘That’s the first time I’ve seen you in red.’ I still follow Leeds and want them to do well and still have that same feeling towards Manchester United.”

Milner has played for the Red Devils' three main rivals. Leeds to start with, Manchester City later on and, of course, now Liverpool.

He's done a good job of trying to wind them up in that time, too, and if he can help Liverpool win tomorrow night, that should only increase.

The Verdict

Leeds fans will love hearing this.

Milner has never come across as the kind of player who'd let the fame and accolades he's won make him forget where he's come from.

But, even so, it's still nice to see that he's taking the time to keep across his club.
