Former Leeds United midfielder Danny Mills has been impressed the club’s start to the Championship.

According to Leeds’ official Twitter account, Mills has expressed his delight with their start with the Whites currently top of the division after a run of six games without defeat.

Now a pundit, the former midfielder was part of the Leeds side that made it to the Champions League semi-final back in 2001.

And when asked about the club’s start to the season, Mills said: “I think it is brilliant.

“There was a lot of talk about Marcelo Bielsa and how good would he actually be.

“He was unknown in this part of the world, in terms of the way he plays football and, yes, we knew his style of play but would it fit in with the Championship?

“It has gone better than expected. Can he sustain it? Let’s wait and see but let’s enjoy it while we can.”

Leeds travel to The Den next weekend looking to make it seven unbeaten in a ground that has been unkind to them in recent years, having lost last season’s unbeaten run to Millwall last September.

The Verdict

Danny Mills is echoing what many have said so far this season.

Plenty of fans and pundits expected Leeds to have a good season under Marcelo Bielsa, despite his lack of Championship understanding.

And those who thought that have been blown away and impressed with how Leeds have won their games and the style of play they are currently implementing.

It was a surprise to a lot of people just how fast United got going and how well they have hit the ground running.

The next big test is maintaining that throughout the season and more immediately, after two weeks off courtesy of the international break.

A trip to Millwall be the acid test fans have been waiting for this season.
