Tony Dorigo believes that the current Leeds side is suffering from a lack of leadership figures.

The former defender joined Leeds from Chelsea in 1991 and played there for six years. He won the First Division title while he was there, which was just before the Premier League broke away from the Football League.

Leeds were a top side back them and even played in Europe, so their current team pales in comparison. This season's side is struggling to challenge for the play-offs after a long spell outside of the Premier League, although the signs are promising under Andrea Radrizzani.

This is what Dorigo had to say about Leeds in an interview with Betstars: "We need Championship-experience players. Simple as that. A goal-scorer, we need a striker absolutely."

"And a leader at the back, I don't see too many leaders in the side - vocal people that understand the club and the league they're playing in."

"You talk about Villa and the players that they've got, John Terry, [Glenn] Whelan etc - Leeds haven't got anything like that and I think that's where they're certainly lacking."

The Verdict

There does appear to be a lack of leadership in the team aside from Luke Ayling and Pontus Jansson who could be leaving in the summer. Bringing in some experienced players at this level would help them through tough spells next season as well as aiding the young academy graduates as they make their first appearances in the first-team.

He also pointed out the need for a striker, so he has provided a good assessment of the key issues affecting Leeds currently. The onus is on Paul Heckingbottom and the board to find a solution for these problems.
