Leeds United are preparing for another season in the Championship as they fell to a shock play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County.

It's likely to be a summer of change at Elland Road, with potential player departures on the cards as Marcelo Bielsa looks to build his squad for next season.

But Leeds fans will be hopeful that Bielsa will find the right targets to suit his style of play.

In an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds United defender, Danny Mills feels as though Bielsa should be following in the footsteps of Frank Lampard at Derby in the transfer market.

"It comes down to Marcelo Bielsa’s contacts. He is adored by Guardiola, Pochettino and the rest, so take advantage of it. Why not? That’s how football works.

"Lampard did it brilliantly at Derby this season. He is a legend of the game and people want to play for him, but it was his links with Chelsea that helped them sign Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori."

Mills feels as though Bielsa should be using the contacts he has in football to sign promising players on loan for the Whites next season.

"We’re hearing Leeds don’t have much money to spend, so why not use Bielsa’s contacts to get the best young players from Spurs and Man City and given them the experience of working for a season under a coach who will develop them, and plays in an attractive style?"

It's set to be an interesting, and potentially season-defining summer transfer window for Bielsa and Leeds, as they look to win a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League.

The Verdict:

I couldn't agree with him more.

I'm surprised that Bielsa hasn't touched on his contacts more since he arrived at Leeds, and he'll surely be exploring this into more detail over the summer.

If he can bring in loanees ahead of next season, then it could tilt the promotion race in their favour.
