Plymouth Argyle have confirmed on their official site that they have today completed the signing of Toumani Diagouraga on a free transfer.

The former Brentford and Leeds United midfielder had been a free agent since his contract a Elland Road was terminated earlier in the season, and links up with Derek Adams’ side ahead of their clash against top of the table Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The Pilgrims have been poor since their promotion to the third tier last season, and sit bottom of the pile following the opening twelve games of the season.

Diagouraga was very impressive during his six year spell in west London with the Bees, before earning a switch to Leeds in 2016.

Opportunities were hard to come by however, and a short loan switch to Ipswich Town ensued before the termination of his contract this season.

The signing of Diagouraga can be considered a real coup, with many clubs in the Football League sure to have been eyeing up a move for the free agent.

The Verdict

Signing Diagouraga is a real statement of intent by the struggling Pilgrims, with the French midfielder sure to drastically increase the quality of the midfield at Home Park.

The 30-year-old has the ability to control games, and is extremely assured on the ball.

Perhaps the player is using the switch as an opportunity to regain fitness and earn himself another deal at a Championship club, or perhaps he has been convinced by the project Adams is trying to achieve at the club.

Either way, this is a real coup.
